The Goodness of God
The goodness of God is a foundational truth which provides the bedrock upon which every believer MUST anchor and secure his/her joy.
Since God is good and sovereign, He controls everything in the universe according to His character—toward a good end.
God is good as a Person, a good Being.
He is not bad or evil or amoral; no, He is good, and how refreshing this is.
God is good, always!
1 Chronicles 16:34 "O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting."
“… morally perfect, and gloriously generous. The acknowledgment of God as good is the foundation of all biblical thinking about moral goodness. ‘Good’ in Scripture is not an abstract quality, nor is it a secular human ideal; ‘good’ means first and foremost what God is … then what He does, creates, commands, and gives, and finally what He approves in the lives of His creatures. It is not that the biblical writers assess God in terms of a prior concept of goodness, but rather that, contemplating the supreme glory of God’s perfections, they apply to Him the ordinary word for acknowledging worth. By so doing, however, they give the word a new depth of meaning." J.I.Packer
Therefore, God Himself defines goodness, not some external “goodness” defining and characterizing God.
Psalm 34:8 "O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!"
Jean-Paul
